Matisoff’s Jewelers was founded in 1972 by Maurice and Sarah Gordon. Maurice was an electrical engineer with TVA who enjoyed the jewelry business. Sarah oversaw the daily activities while Maurice provided the vision.

Their son, Stephen Gordon, entered the business after graduating from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1972. He is a graduate of The Holland Jewelry School of Design; The New York School of Jewelry Design; received gemological training from The Gemological Institute of America; is a member of The American Gem Society and The American Watchmakers Institute.

The store has operated in the same location for nearly 40 years, undergoing several renovations during that time to stay current in design and technology.
